‘Manicure’ crowned best at Yari Iranian Film Festival

Iranian short film ‘Manicure’ has been awarded at Yari Iranian Film Festival in Sweden.

Iranian short film ‘Manicure’ has been awarded at the 19th edition of the Yari Iranian Film Festival in Sweden.

Directed by Arman Fayyaz, the 14-minute film received the best short film award of the event.

'Manicure' is the story of a young man having trouble coping with the sudden death of his wife, while facing pressure from an angry mob of rural residents after a shocking fact is revealed during her burial.

The award-winning flick has competed in over 80 international film festivals to include the Sundance, Cleveland, and Palm Springs film festivals all in the US and the Encounters Short Film Festival in the UK.

International awards for ‘Manicure’ include Best Short Film at the 5th Los Angeles Diversity Film Festival (LADFF) in the US, Best Film at the Big Bang International Short Film Festival in Athens, Greece, and Special Jury Prize at the 2018 Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival (Curta Cinema) in Brazil.

According to earlier ifilm reports, ‘Orange Days’ by Arash Lahouti has also won the best film award of the Yari Filmfest.

The Yari festival is annually organized by Yari, an Uppsala-based charity organization that helps street children in Iran to go to school and also raises funds for the construction of schools and libraries for children.

The 19th Yari was held on October 12-13, 2019 in the Swedish capital of Stockholm.
